Poised to Pounce

Jaguar’s 2016 XF S, the top of the new XF line, sinks its claws into the midsize luxury sports sedan segment.

The XF S, the top-of-the-line supercharged version of the all-new XF line, packs in advanced cockpit technology to match its unparalleled sporty good looks.

Jaguar is flexing its muscle. In the last year, the British brand has invested some $5 billion in research and development and in its manufacturing facilities. The fruits of these investments are seen in Jaguar’s reinvigorated lineup—the supersleek F-TYPE sports car and, now, the completely redesigned XF S, a midsize sports sedan that’s poised to shake up the segment.

The key to Jaguar’s success is design—creating a vehicle that lives up to its storied heritage. This is exactly what Ian Callum, Jaguar’s design director, achieved with the new XF. The overall look is modern with hints of Jaguar’s signature design notes, such as its J-Blade LED daytime running lights, its bold power dome hood and the low roofline that emphasizes its sporting nature. In back, you can’t help but notice the quad roundel taillights and, of course, the large Jaguar leaper badge affixed to the center of the trunk lid.

Inside, the XF boasts a high-tech cabin that’s designed to improve your driving experience as well as your connectivity. An optional large 10.2-inch touchscreen offers a suite of apps, which makes accessing your favorite music or planning your ideal route a breeze. Behind the steering wheel, another large flat-screen, measuring an astonishing 12.3 inches, is fully customizable, allowing you to view navigation instructions with full mapping detail while barely taking your eyes off the road. Beyond the onboard tech, the new XF is dramatically spacious for passengers, offering more legroom, kneeroom and headroom than the outgoing model, earning it best-in-class status, despite weighing some 11 percent less than the former XF.

The lightweight and stiff aluminum body pays dividends on the road, where the XF S performs like a car half its size. The supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine peaks at 380 horsepower, launching the XF S from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.1 seconds. And, for the first time ever, all-wheel drive is an option on the high-octane XF S. Couple AWD with Jaguar’s Adaptive Dynamics system, which monitors and adjusts body movement nearly 100 times per second, and you have yourself one unflappable cat.

To coincide with the launch of the new XF line, Jaguar is also introducing EliteCare, a warranty that offers complimentary scheduled maintenance for five years or 60,000 miles—a move that makes the XF a standout in this highly competitive segment. Look for the XF S to arrive in Jaguar dealers around the beginning of next year.
