With the theme “Navigating Our Way to Breakthroughs,” The Breakthrough Ball spotlighted UChicago’s work in cancer detection, treatment and research. Held at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago, the event’s starlit backdrop set a celestial tone, while a film by Ogilvy featuring patients and their doctors wove a narrative of hope and inspiration throughout the evening. Breakthrough Board President Jennifer Rhind delivered remarks, while chair Laura Werner presented Northern Trust with the Partner in Breakthroughs Award, recognizing its support of cancer research at UChicago Medicine. The evening drew nearly 500 guests, who moved from a super silent auction during cocktail hour, led by board members Kristi Nuelle and Barb Sessions, into a live auction headed up by Alyssa Quinlan, formerly of Freeman’s. The evening raised more than $1.84 million in support of cancer research at UChicago Medicine, with a record-breaking paddle raise contributing to the total.
